December 1st: World AIDS Day & Giving Tuesday

December 1st is going to be a huge date for us at the 30/30 Project and Construction for Change! This year both World AIDS Day and #GivingTuesday just happen to fall on the same day.To celebrate this special day, the 30/30 Project and Construction for Change are working together to raise money for the NOPE Project in Kenya as a part of #GivingTuesday and World AIDS Day.We are partnering with the National Organization of Peer Educators (NOPE) in Kenya to build a National Youth Training and Comprehensive Care Center, for the Ambassadors of Change Center. This center will address health, livelihoods and economic empowerment needs among youth in and out of school. Why NOPE? NOPE has been at the forefront of HIV/AIDS education since the late 1990's, implementing workplace education, pushing for effective public policy, advocating for reproductive health, and strengthening communities across sub-Saharan Africa. NOPE envisions ‘a world with healthy communities and sustained social development and is on a mission to build the capacity of communities and organizations for the delivery of quality health and social services.’Youth in Kenya are highly vulnerable to HIV infection – women aged 15 to 24 years, in particular, are four times more likely to contract HIV than young men in the same age group. The facility will directly serve the needs of this population by reaching out to young people; conducting sessions on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, family planning, alcohol and drug abuse, and gender-based violence, and guiding them to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. Specific services at the Youth Friendly Clinic will include: curative and reproductive health center, training in wellness and youth health issues. The clinic will also provide antiretroviral medication to young people living with HIV. This Center will provide:

  • Youth-friendly primary and reproductive health services

  • Tailor-made courses e.g. ICT and entrepreneurship

  • Links to markets for products/services

  • Career mentorship and financial training

  • Gender-Based Violence recovery services

  • Recreational facilities for youth

If you would like to help and share your support for #GivingTuesday and the NOPE Project, you can donate HERE. We are about to break the cycle of poverty for over 50,000 individuals, as we all say #YesToNOPE
