Project Highlight: Matibabu

In celebrating International Infrastructure Week, the 30/30 Project is featuring our project with Construction for Change and our partners the Matibabu Foundation and the Tiba Foundation in Siaya, Kenya. The second phase of this project broke ground earlier this Spring and will be completed later this year! This project is an expansion of the existing hospital which will dramatically expand the number of patients that the facility is able to treat. The bed occupancy rate at the facility averages 90 percent and the average length of stay averages 4.5 days. It is not uncommon for Matibabu to have to turn patients away because the hospital is full. The impact of this expansion will help address this issue. Before renovations, the Matibabu Foundation Hospital served 24,000 outpatient cases and more than 2,000 inpatient cases annually. With the renovations, this caseload will more than double. There will be 52 beds added throughout the four new wards. Included in the renovations are adequate medical rooms, surgical rooms, an isolation ward, pediatric ward, maternity ward, labor ward, and a postnatal room. Our friends at the Gould Family Foundation are providing the furnishings for the new wards! The Matibabu Foundation and Tiba Foundation have been serving this community for more than 12 years. Our partners aim to improve healthcare, education, economic development, and empowerment locally. The 30/30 Project is a healthcare initiative of Construction for Change whose vision to provide construction management that furthers education, healthcare and economic opportunity in low resourced areas around the world is something we are proud to be part of. Congratulations to Construction for Change and to all of our project managers... Happy Infrastructure Week!
