Project Feature: Health Builders, Rwanda
This week the 30/30 Project is proud to feature our partnership with, Health Builders, in Rwanda. Health Builders is dedicated to addressing the fundamental challenges that prevent universal access to quality primary health care services in Rwanda: inefficient management systems, inadequate or nonexistent health infrastructure, and outdated technology. The 30/30 Project is funding an outpatient ward as a part of Health Builders’ brand new health center, serving over 42,500 people residing in Rugerero sector of Rubavu District. This sector is one of the most densely populated areas other than the capital city of Kigali, which means the population served by Health Builder medical centers will increase by more than 30% once the the Rugerero health center is up and running. As we mentioned in our last post, transportation to receive care is one of the main barriers in access to healthcare. In the Rugerero sector of Rubavu District, many people live more than an hour away from the nearest health facility—some requiring more than two hours to reach health services—which is why a new medical facility in this area will be able to increase access to care greatly.Health Builders also works closely with the health care providers of their facilities to build strong management systems. Health Builders makes it a priority to equip health centers with system strengthening technology that supports efficient and sustainable operations. This approach results in health centers with the knowledge, resources, and capacity to thrive as independent enterprises, ensuring more people receive higher quality care in Rwanda.Health Builders has built six primary health care centers and two maternity wards from the ground up, and has provided over 100 health facilities with management mentorship and business coaching to ensure that they run efficiently and cost-effectively. We feel that this experience, along with the multi-faceted approach that Heath Builders takes will impact the affected population in a tremendously positive way. We are so excited to have such an amazing partner as Health Builders, Rwanda!
